Goal! Goal! Goal!
Feb 11, 2011Developed by obscure developer Visco for the Neo-Geo/Arcade GoalGoalGoal! borrows heavily from Tecmo World Cup and a number of other games developed around the same time. Released in 1995 this derivative arcade title somehow adds up to slightly more than the sum of its shoddy parts.
While it’s by no means a great title, I had a lot more fun with GoalGoalGoal! than I expected. You might be wondering why a game that on paper sounds like a variation on the worst of the Fifa series gets a half decent review despite faults like rebounds and rugby tackling. The main reason is that GoalGoalGoal! doesn’t pretend to be a simulation like Fifa and the lack of 360 degree spins and a decent powerbar help make the game more varied. You actually feel a sense of accomplishment when you score a goal which is always a sign of a decent game. Furthermore, the lack of a speed-burst button means that at its core, GoalGoalGoal! is a game of pass and move – just how soccer should be (even if the passes have some serious voodoo). GoalGoalGoal! also holds up fairly well against other Neo-Geo titles and while it doesn’t have the intricate build-up play of the Super Side Kicks series, the larger field and the shooting from anywhere make the goalmouth action more frantic.

Twinkestar Sprites
Feb 10, 2011Twinkle Star Sprites (ティンクルスタースプライツ, Tinkuru Sutaa Supuraitsu?) is a 1996 competitive scrolling shooter arcade game originally created by ADK. It was ADK's last production for the Neo-Geo platform. The gameplay, which can be characterized as a combination of a fixed shooter and a versus puzzle game, uses combinations of shots, as well as timed power-ups to attempt to damage the opponent. These attacks also serve as counters to the opponent's attack.
There are two types of standard attacks: a normal shot and a charge-up shot. Each character starts with two bombs which enables him in the event of desperate plight, to clean with the screen while briefly acquiring a state of invincibility. The two players' playfields are separated by a vertical bar, each one having its own independent of the other. Series of enemies arrive from the top of the screen. The player is to successfully destroy them in chains (combos), which will send one or more fireball projectiles to the screen of his adversary (Normal Attack). Shooting at Normal Attacks several times reflects them back as glowing Reverse Attacks. If Reverse Attacks are reflected again, a number of powerful counterattacks in the shape of one or more indestructible enemies appear (Extra Attack). Reflecting many Reverse Attacks at once can instead summon a boss (Boss Attack).

2020 Baseball
Feb 9, 2011Super Baseball 2020 (2020年スーパーベースボール?) is a futuristic baseball video game. It was first released in Japan for the Neo Geo in 1991, and then it was later released in North America for the Mega Drive/Genesis (ported by NuFX and released by Electronic Arts) and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (released by Tradewest) in 1993.
Different from real baseball and other baseball video games, this game consists of both male and female characters, as well as robots. All three types of players have the same basic abilities and vary only on their personal strengths. In many cases, human players are better than their robot counterparts. One major difference between the human and robot characters is that the robot characters can blow up (or lose all their power) if they are worked too hard during a game. That can happen if you constantly make them dive for a ball, run extra bases, or even if they get hit by a pitch. Under no stress whatsoever, some robots, especially pitchers, will naturally run out of power as the game progresses. When this happens, they will lose all their abilities and be useless, both offensively and defensively. When that occurs, you can either power them up or replace them with another person on the roster. Human players do not blow up, but human pitchers can tire out. When they are tired, they will pant heavily and throw the ball very slowly. This can be remedied by either an upgrade or, as in real baseball, switching to a relief pitcher.

Neo Turf Masters
Feb 7, 2011Neo Turf Masters (Big Tournament Golf in Japan) is a golf video game by Nazca for the Neo Geo, released in 1996. This is also one of the first two titles by Nazca, the other being the popular Metal Slug before being acquired by SNK.
The game was released as an arcade cartridge (MVS), a home cartridge (AES), as well as for the Neo Geo CD console. The Neo Geo version was later re-released as part of the SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 compilation for the PS2, Wii and PSP, as well as for the Wii Virtual Console.
The game is a fast paced, arcade-style golf game. Players choose from two game modes, stroke play for one or two players, and match play for only two players.
Competing on one of four fictional golf courses located in the United States, Japan, Australia and Germany, players choose from one of six players with different attributes:
* George Spinner, an American young hero
* Thomas Stewart, a British technician
* Frank Adams, an Australian veteran
* Robert Landolt, a German shot maker
* Fernand Almeida, A Brazilian power golfer
* Toyoshiege Takeno, A Japanese putt master

Baseball Star 2
Feb 6, 2011Baseball Stars 2 is a 2-player baseball arcade game released by SNK in 1992 for the Neo-Geo console. A less cartoony console version was released for the NES by Romstar the same year.
The Neo-Geo version was released for Virtual Console on December 10, 2007 and the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Wii as part of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1.
Players can still create leagues of up to 125 games (6 teams playing each other 25 times) and view statistics such as League Standings and Top 10 in Average, Home Runs, Runs Batted In, Earned Run Average, Wins and Saves. (A peculiar glitch occurs when viewing league leaders. The last pitcher listed on any user-created team in "View Team" does not appear in any of the Top 10 leaderboards.) Players can still fire players, and upgrade them using the same 15-point system introduced in the original Baseball Stars.

Neo Driftout
Feb 3, 2011Pull the joystick in a direction to steer and maneuver the car. Press the A button to accelerate. Press the B button to put on the brakes. The player has a choice of either a Mitsubishi Lancer, a Suburba Impreza or a Toyota Celica each with their own different levels of own Speed, Control and Body stats. To start off the player has to win the Practice Stage. In each racing stage, the player needs to get to the finish line in the shortest time possible.
If the clock hits zero, the player loses and the game is over unless they can continue. While driving, the time is hindered by barrels, puddle, slippery ice, cones and other obstacles in the player's path. Even other cars driving can be an obstacle. Also the player has to keep straight when driving up slopes, or the car will swurve and crash. The player can gain more time if they make it through checkpoints in between the starting and finishing points. The player can also take shortcuts. Before making a turn, the player will always get an immediate warning on the screen with a voice saying which direction the player ought to turn and certain warnings. There are a total of seven stages in the game: The Practice Stage, The European Stage, The African Stage, The Snow land Stage, The Southern Hemisphere Stage, The Scandinavian Stage and the Great Britain Stage.

Super Sidekicks 3
Feb 2, 2011The new features in this game include naming the player scoring goals for his team and keeping score of how many goals he scores during his team's use by the player. Alongside the "Top Teams" ranking which serves as a high score table for teams, there is a "Top Scorer" table for individual players. The name and use of scoring players is random, however.
The second new feature include regional tournaments, in which a team (from any region) can enter a tournament within its own region or other regions. This is good for those players who like a particular team but don't want to be facing the same opponents every time, as they would if they played the World tournament. Championships include World Tournament (FIFA World Cup), Europe Tournament (UEFA European Football Championship), South America Tournament (Copa América), Americas Tournament (CONCACAF Gold Cup), Africa Tournament (African Cup of Nations), and Asia Tournament (AFC Asian Cup).

Zupapa
Jan 24, 2011Whimsical is the best description of this game. You take your "ZuPaPa" and try and clear single frame stages of all the enemies on the screen through multiple levels. That's pretty much it. Like NitD, its very similar to Snow Bros (1990). All the levels are very light and colorful, each stage adheres to a particular theme (toy land, scary monsters, the circus, etc.). The actual plot of ZuPaPa! is non-existent. Your only purpose is to clear screens and rake up points. The game really doesn't need much else. ZuPaPa!'s unique point is its choice of weaponry. In addition to your ZuPaPa's punch, you can gather and use "Zooks," which are little creatures that resemble small ZuPaPas. Once the Zooks are gathered and thrown onto an enemy, they beat it until your character touches the enemy, causing it to explode in a blast radius relative to the number of Zooks on it (up to four). This forms the basis for chain reaction points and fighting bosses.
ZuPaPa! plays very smoothly, like a refined Snow Bros. The challenge is adequate, and will give veteran gamers a good work-out. Unlike Snow Bros and NitD, ZuPaPa! allows you to jump down a platform instead of just up. This takes away the annoying problem of getting trapped by enemies because their above you. The different ways of dispatching your enemies with or without Zooks gives the game variety and skill. There are a lot of ways to increase your points in this game. In addition to the bounty of bonus items, you get large bonuses for clearing multiple enemies with a single Zook-blast. Several of the power-ups deal directly with points -giving you points for something as simple as jumping or punching! There are also performance enhancing power-ups that allow ZuPaPa to move faster or throw more Zooks at one time. All in all, ZuPaPa! carries on the old video game tradition of playing to beat the high score. The 2-player mode adds even more replay.
ZuPaPa! is a game in the traditions of the old school: Giving players simple goals, decent graphics, and excellent gameplay to reach the prize. Even though the similar NitD was released in the previous year, I see no reason not to enjoy each. Of the two, ZuPaPa! is the better game: offering more replay, more variation and appealing characters. One of the things I noticed after beating the game is that the programmers had titled it "Episode 1." Its a shame there will probably never be a sequel. I, for one, would have looked forward to it.

Played just like a normal game of bowling, with 300 being a perfect score.
Flash
Values of 100 to 500 will flash on a randomizer during the time the bowler throws his shot. A strike adds the bonus flash value to the score accumulated at the end of the game.
Strike 90
Played just like regulation except that a strike adds 90 points to the next two shots, and a spare adds 60 points to the next shot. 30 points are awarded in the case of a field goal (throwing the ball in between the 7 and 10 pins).

NBA Jam
Dec 13, 2010NBA Jam, which featured 2-on-2 basketball, was one of the first real playable basketball arcade games, and was also one of the first sports games to feature NBA-licensed teams and players, and their real digitized likenesses.
A key feature of NBA Jam was the exaggerated nature of the play - players jumped many times above their own height, making slam dunks that defied both human capabilities and the laws of physics. There were no fouls, free throws, or violations except goaltending and 24 second violations. This meant the player was able to freely shove or elbow his opponent out of the way. Additionally, the game had an "on fire" feature, where if one player made three baskets in a row, he would become "on fire" and have unlimited turbo, no goaltending, and increased shooting ability, until the other team scored (or the player had scored four consecutive baskets while "on fire").
The game is filled with easter eggs, special features and players activated by initials or button/joystick combinations. For example, pressing A five times and right five times on any Sega Genesis controller would activate 'Super Clean Floors'. This feature would cause characters to fall if they ran too fast or changed direction too quickly. And players could enter special codes to unlock hidden players, ranging from US President Bill Clinton to Hugo the Charlotte Hornets mascot. Early versions of the sequel, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, allowed players to put in codes that allowed people to play as characters from Mortal Kombat, but the NBA, uneasy over the controversies surrounding Mortal Kombat's levels of violence, forced Midway to remove these characters in later updates.

Puzzle Bobble
Dec 10, 2010At the start of each round, the rectangular playing arena contains a prearranged pattern of coloured "bubbles". (These are actually referred to in the translation as "balls"; however, they were clearly intended to be bubbles, since they pop, and are taken from Bubble Bobble.) At the bottom of the screen, the player controls a device called a "pointer", which aims and fires bubbles up the screen. The colour of bubbles fired is randomly generated and chosen from the colours of bubbles still left on the screen.
The fired bubbles travel in straight lines (possibly bouncing off the side walls of the arena), stopping when they touch other bubbles or reach the top of the arena. If a bubble touches identically-coloured bubbles, forming a group of three or more, those bubbles—as well as any bubbles hanging from them—are removed from the field of play, and points are awarded.
.gif)
After every few shots, the "ceiling" of the playing arena drops downwards slightly, along with all the bubbles stuck to it. The number of shots between each drop of the ceiling is influenced by the number of bubble colours remaining. The closer the bubbles get to the bottom of the screen, the faster the music plays and if they cross the line at the bottom then the player dies and the game is over.
The objective of the game is to clear all the bubbles from the arena without dying. Bubbles will fire automatically if the player remains idle. After clearing the arena, the next round begins with a new pattern of bubbles to clear.

Super Bishi Bashi
Nov 26, 2010Hyper pie throwing
A bride, with the groom holding her train, must run from the altar of a church down the aisle to where the wedding guests are seated. The faster the player mashes two of the game buttons, the faster the bride runs. Once she reaches the front row, the player presses and holds the third game button (much like the javelin event in International Track & Field, or indeed in Bishi Bashi 3), which allows them to pick an angle for the pie's trajectory. Letting go of the button unleashes the pie, which flies several rows back and hits one of the wedding guests. All wedding guests, except the pied victim, stand and applaud. The game is judged on how many rows the pie flew, and the winner is whoever threw their pie the furthest.
Shake the can into outer space!
Players mash all the game buttons to shake a soft drink can. After a fixed period of time, all cans are placed on Space Shuttle launchpads, and launched into space with their pent-up fizz. The winner is whoever's can flies the furthest from Earth. If the player is particularly good, their can will be powerful enough to slam into the moon.

In this mode of gameplay, the players team travels across the U.S.A to take on teams at various courts. There are unlockable, new courts, secret courts, and better, more skilled ballers. This is the story mode of the game. There are some things that players have to pay to unlock, and there are even more things that players have to beat the mode several times to unlock. This is a 1-Player mode, with the ability to have other human players on a player's teams. However, the earning from this mode will only be saved to the progress of the first user. Progression through the mode is through the first player, as well. Other human players merely serve as teammates from game to game.

Lord of the Court
This mode of play is the opposite of the World Tournament mode. The controlling player plays as the home court and other teams come to challenge them. If the controlling player can keep everybody off their "turf", they can unlock streetball movies, secret characters and clothes. This is a 1-Player mode, with the ability to have other human players on the controlling player's teams. However, the earning from this mode will only be saved to the progress of the first user. Progression through the mode is through the first player, as well. Other humans players merely serve as teammates from game to game.
Pick-Up Game
This is the exhibition mode of the game. The player can choose to play either a full or half court game, on the court and with the teams of their choosing-provided that they are already unlocked through World Tournament. This is the game's multi-player mode. In this mode, every user on the winning team will earn $100 per game.

Romance 3 Kingdoms
Nov 10, 2010Myths from the Three Kingdoms era existed as oral traditions before written compilations. With their focus on the history of Han Chinese, the stories grew in popularity during the reign of the foreign Mongol emperors of the Yuan Dynasty. During the succeeding Ming Dynasty, an interest in plays and novels resulted in further expansions and retelling of the stories.
The earliest attempt to combine these stories into a written work was Sanguozhi Pinghua (三國誌評話,三国志评话; Sānguózhì Pínghuà), literally "Story of Sanguozhi", published sometime between 1321 and 1323. This version combined themes of legend, magic, and morality to appeal to the peasant class. Elements of reincarnation and karma were woven into this version of the story.

Gals Panic
Nov 7, 2010Each round starts with 3 minutes time remaining, unless affected by roulette item. If a player continues the existing round, 1 minute is added to remaining time. During each round, random items can appear in the field, which can help or hinder player's progress.
A round begins with player at the edge of the background. Capturing an area can be done by moving cursor to the edge of the background or edge of an already captured area.
There are various blocks appear in each round, which can block the movement of player but not enemies, and also affects the strategies of capturing silhouettes. Blocks disappear when capturing an area with enclosed blocks.

At the top of each round is a 20-level meter, where it starts with 11. The meter gauge increases or decreases depending on how background area is captured. Usually it decreases when capturing area with silhouette, but increases when capturing area without silhouette. The meter decreases by 1 if player does not capture an area for a prolonged period. If the meter reaches 0, player loses a life; if the meter reaches 20 (full), the round is automatically cleared; if the meter reaches yellow (6 bars), the background and silhouette is replaced by an alternate picture, with different silhouette. The type of alternate background is chosen at random. When the background change occurs, it can be changed back to girl background by increasing meter level to 10. However, if the silhouette ratio reaches 80% with alternate background, that game round is restarted afterwards, without going through roulette round.
This game includes 6 stages, with 3 rounds each. Between each round there is a roulette mini-game, where player gets a random item that can help or hinder game play of next round. If a round is cleared with 100% captured silhouette, a can-can dance sequence with '100% CLEAR' title is shown.

Ghostlop
Oct 26, 2010INTRODUCTION
The games intro is actually very short. It is only a few seconds long and does not really give much of the story of the game. It begins with one laughing ghost at the center of the screen. Soon, others begin to surround it until the entire screen becomes filled with various ghosts all laughing hysterically in a maniacal tone! The ghosts then disappear, the screen fades to black, and the Ghostlop title logo appears faintly in the background and rotates & scales forward until it locks in place as the full title screen completely emerges.

STARTING OUT
When you start the game, you have two modes of gameplay to choose from, Story and Versus. The story mode is done very well. The storyline goes like this...
It seems that the city is being pestered by frequent hauntings & ghostly sightings! Have no fear, Bruce & McCoy are here! They are ghost hunting partners who work for Rachel, president of the city's ghost eviction company. These professional ghostbusters get called out on various assignments where a ghostly being has haunted a building or possessed a person, an object, etc. Each case is presented
with a mini intro composed of cut scenes and descriptive text that details what the problem is. The game also tosses in some non-linear elements into the mix for later on it actually offers the player choices after completing each mission! Basically you can select between two courses of action before you continue. The versus mode plays pretty much the same as any other neogeo competitive game. Players compete in a head to head battle of skills & reflexes.
HOW TO PLAY
Gameplay is easy to learn but takes time to master. The joystick controls the left & right movement of your character as well as the angle of the fireballs you shoot. The player presses the A button to shoot red fireballs and the B button to shoot blue fireballs. The player is attacked by both red & blue ghosts which can be eliminated by shooting them with these fireballs. To clear a ghost, it must be hit by the same color fireball. When you shoot down 5 or more ghost blocks together, you attack your opponent. When an opponent attacks, a skull block appears. This ghostly impediment can only be destroyed after it is hit twice by the ball. However here is where it gets more interesting. The ball color can actually be changed in mid flight at any time by the player! This is where "combos" can be achieved as multiple ghosts of different colors can be eliminated at one time with one volley. This can speed up the pace of the round and demands fast thinking and even faster reaction!

Neo BomberMan
Oct 25, 2010Neo Bomberman is one of two Bomberman games developed by Hudson Soft to be released for the Neo Geo hardware, the other being Panic Bomber. Unlike Panic Bomber, a puzzle game, Neo Bomberman retains the traditional top-down gameplay.

Single-player
The gameplay consists of walking through maze-like areas filled with monsters with a goal of opening the gate leading to the next area. Playing as a bomberman, the player can lay bombs to destroy all of the monsters, which will subsequently open the gate. Destroying blocks in the maze may uncover useful items including remote control bombs, accelerators, and hearts.
Multiplayer
In Battle Mode, one to two players can face off against up to three AI players in one of ten arenas designed specifically for multiplayer play. Matches can be customized as battle royal matches or as team matches. Besides the regular items found in singleplayer mode, the glove (allowing Bomberman to pick up and toss bombs) and speed increases can be found in multiplayer.

Wind Jammers
Oct 22, 2010Windjammers (also known as Flying Power Disc in Japan) is an arcade game released by Data East on the Neo Geo arcade system in 1994. The game is based on an actual real world sport, called 10-S, using a flying disc. The game Mechanics are essentially the same as Pong, with added values depending on where the disc hits the goalposts behind the opponent.

There are also six courts on which matches can be held.
* Beach - The smallest court available, 5 point zone in the center and 3 point zones on the edges.
* Lawn - Second largest court available, 5 point zone in the center and 3 point zones on the edges.
* Tiled - The second smallest court available, 3 point zone in the center and 5 point zones on the edges.
* Concrete - Same size as the lawn court, except with two barriers near the walls. Discs that hit a barrier will bounce off at an odd angle, making defense more difficult. 5 point zone in the center and 3 point zones on the edges.
* Clay - Same size as the lawn court, except with two barriers in the middle. Discs that hit a barrier will bounce off at an odd angle, making defense more difficult. 5 point zone in the center and 3 point zones on the edges.
* Stadium - The largest court available, 5 point zone in the center and 3 point zones on the edges. The central 5 point zone will grow larger every time a player scores more than once in a row, giving the player who is behind a greater opportunity to catch up.

Stakes Winner
Oct 6, 2010After one round of the horse racing game Stakes Winner 2, all gamers inevitably must ask themselves the same question: "What the hell was THAT all about?" A niche title on a niche system, Stakes Winner 2 has unusual gameplay that only horse-racing otaku could love. Premise: Horse racing games are quite popular in Japan and pretty much equus non grata in the U.S. Do you want to push buttons to make a horse gallop around a 2D track? America generally says no, but Japan and Europe say yes. But that's what Stakes Winner 2 offers--pushing one of three buttons to make your horse gallop fast, faster, or fastest. There's timing involved, as well as strategy.

You'll not only need to weave through the pack, snagging speed and energy power-ups while avoiding collisions, but you must conserve your horse's energy as well. Players choose either a European or American circuit; the latter features such famed locales as the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
