Goal! Goal! Goal!
Feb 11, 2011Developed by obscure developer Visco for the Neo-Geo/Arcade GoalGoalGoal! borrows heavily from Tecmo World Cup and a number of other games developed around the same time. Released in 1995 this derivative arcade title somehow adds up to slightly more than the sum of its shoddy parts.
While it’s by no means a great title, I had a lot more fun with GoalGoalGoal! than I expected. You might be wondering why a game that on paper sounds like a variation on the worst of the Fifa series gets a half decent review despite faults like rebounds and rugby tackling. The main reason is that GoalGoalGoal! doesn’t pretend to be a simulation like Fifa and the lack of 360 degree spins and a decent powerbar help make the game more varied. You actually feel a sense of accomplishment when you score a goal which is always a sign of a decent game. Furthermore, the lack of a speed-burst button means that at its core, GoalGoalGoal! is a game of pass and move – just how soccer should be (even if the passes have some serious voodoo). GoalGoalGoal! also holds up fairly well against other Neo-Geo titles and while it doesn’t have the intricate build-up play of the Super Side Kicks series, the larger field and the shooting from anywhere make the goalmouth action more frantic.

Jan 20, 2011The gameplay is straightforward with elements similar to that of Capcom's 19XX games, but it is incredibly difficult even on the easiest difficulty level. Unlike most scrolling shooters, the vehicle is a seaplane instead of spaceship or airplane. As the in-game instructions indicate, move the joystick around to maneuver the seaplane. Press the A Button to fire bullets. The player can also hold the A button for a semi-automatic fire. Press the B Button to launch bombs from the inventory. The player starts with 3 bombs.
Next the player has to choose the bomb types for the seaplane. In the first and last stage, the player has a choice to start with either the mega bomb or the magnetic warhead. In the sea strike stage, the player also has the gas flame bomb to choose. In the air strike stage, the player also has the air mines to choose. In a 2 player game, both players cannot choose the same bomb type.
The player has to battle airplanes, tanks, gunboats, jets and many other units. Along the way Power ups can be collected for stronger and more widespread firepower, star medals can be collected for bonus points and bombs can be added to the inventory for more bomb attacks. A player can have a maximum of 9 bombs. Soon the player has to face a big boss, consisting of jumbo bombers, Godzilla-sized tanks and other large war machines. The player needs to aim for weak points to destroy the bosses. Some bosses fire dangerous fireballs that split when shot by the player, making the battle more difficult. The player is destroyed when shot once by enemy fire or rams into an enemy unit, then the player has to continue with the next seaplane left in the inventory. The first stage is two part which means there is no checkpoint in between. When the player reaches a checkpoint, the overall score is boosted. After the first stage the player can choose to do either the sea strike stage or the air strike stage first. The sea strike stage consists of mostly sea and land units while the air strike stage consists of a majority of air units. If the player makes it past both stages, the last stage is two part and then the player must face a tank boss the size of a city to win the game.

Goof Troop
Dec 12, 2010Playing as Goofy or Max, the player works through five areas on Spoonerville Island: on the beach, in a village under siege, a haunted castle, an underground cavern, and finally the pirate's ship where Pete and PJ are held captive.
To defend against enemies, players can throw flowerpots, barrels or vases. There exists several items in the game; for example, a bell to bait the pirates. In the multiplayer game, players can bait enemies into positions where the other player can easily defeat them. A grappling hook can be used to stun enemies or for collecting health points, represented as bananas and cherries; only one item can be carried by each player in multiplayer mode, and two in singleplayer mode. Players get an extra life for collecting a red diamond, and an extra continue for a blue one. Other items include shovels for digging up loot in certain areas and candles for lighting up dark places.
The game is very puzzle-oriented. Goofy and Max can kick stones which slide until they are stopped by a barrier. Goofy and Max must place stones on switches to open doors. They also search for grappling hooks with which they can use to stretch a line over an abyss, or wooden shelves to repair a destroyed bridge. In this situation, the items are lost afterwards. In addition, they must search for keys to open the path to the levels' bosses.
From time to time, Goofy and Max meet Islander, who gives them information about treasures on the island or clues about how to solve problems.
The game includes a password system that enables players to start directly in one of the four advanced stages.

Nov 15, 2010The game takes place in the fictional land of Yuria, a Conan the Barbarian-style high fantasy medieval world. An evil entity known as Death Adder has captured the King and his daughter, and holds them captive in their castle. He also finds the Golden Axe, the magical emblem of Yuria, and threatens to destroy both the axe and the royal family unless the people of Yuria accept him as their ruler. Three Warriors set out on a quest to rescue Yuria and avenge their losses at the hands of Death Adder. The first is a battle axe-wielding dwarf, Gilius Thunderhead, from the mines of Wolud, whose twin brother was killed by the soldiers of Death Adder. Another is a male barbarian, Ax Battler, wielding a two handed broadsword looking for revenge for the murder of his mother. The last is a long-sword-wielding Tyris Flare, an amazon, whose parents were both killed by Death Adder.

Gals Panic
Nov 7, 2010Each round starts with 3 minutes time remaining, unless affected by roulette item. If a player continues the existing round, 1 minute is added to remaining time. During each round, random items can appear in the field, which can help or hinder player's progress.
A round begins with player at the edge of the background. Capturing an area can be done by moving cursor to the edge of the background or edge of an already captured area.
There are various blocks appear in each round, which can block the movement of player but not enemies, and also affects the strategies of capturing silhouettes. Blocks disappear when capturing an area with enclosed blocks.

At the top of each round is a 20-level meter, where it starts with 11. The meter gauge increases or decreases depending on how background area is captured. Usually it decreases when capturing area with silhouette, but increases when capturing area without silhouette. The meter decreases by 1 if player does not capture an area for a prolonged period. If the meter reaches 0, player loses a life; if the meter reaches 20 (full), the round is automatically cleared; if the meter reaches yellow (6 bars), the background and silhouette is replaced by an alternate picture, with different silhouette. The type of alternate background is chosen at random. When the background change occurs, it can be changed back to girl background by increasing meter level to 10. However, if the silhouette ratio reaches 80% with alternate background, that game round is restarted afterwards, without going through roulette round.
This game includes 6 stages, with 3 rounds each. Between each round there is a roulette mini-game, where player gets a random item that can help or hinder game play of next round. If a round is cleared with 100% captured silhouette, a can-can dance sequence with '100% CLEAR' title is shown.

Ghostlop
Oct 26, 2010INTRODUCTION
The games intro is actually very short. It is only a few seconds long and does not really give much of the story of the game. It begins with one laughing ghost at the center of the screen. Soon, others begin to surround it until the entire screen becomes filled with various ghosts all laughing hysterically in a maniacal tone! The ghosts then disappear, the screen fades to black, and the Ghostlop title logo appears faintly in the background and rotates & scales forward until it locks in place as the full title screen completely emerges.

STARTING OUT
When you start the game, you have two modes of gameplay to choose from, Story and Versus. The story mode is done very well. The storyline goes like this...
It seems that the city is being pestered by frequent hauntings & ghostly sightings! Have no fear, Bruce & McCoy are here! They are ghost hunting partners who work for Rachel, president of the city's ghost eviction company. These professional ghostbusters get called out on various assignments where a ghostly being has haunted a building or possessed a person, an object, etc. Each case is presented
with a mini intro composed of cut scenes and descriptive text that details what the problem is. The game also tosses in some non-linear elements into the mix for later on it actually offers the player choices after completing each mission! Basically you can select between two courses of action before you continue. The versus mode plays pretty much the same as any other neogeo competitive game. Players compete in a head to head battle of skills & reflexes.
HOW TO PLAY
Gameplay is easy to learn but takes time to master. The joystick controls the left & right movement of your character as well as the angle of the fireballs you shoot. The player presses the A button to shoot red fireballs and the B button to shoot blue fireballs. The player is attacked by both red & blue ghosts which can be eliminated by shooting them with these fireballs. To clear a ghost, it must be hit by the same color fireball. When you shoot down 5 or more ghost blocks together, you attack your opponent. When an opponent attacks, a skull block appears. This ghostly impediment can only be destroyed after it is hit twice by the ball. However here is where it gets more interesting. The ball color can actually be changed in mid flight at any time by the player! This is where "combos" can be achieved as multiple ghosts of different colors can be eliminated at one time with one volley. This can speed up the pace of the round and demands fast thinking and even faster reaction!

Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Oct 23, 2010Garou: Mark of the Wolves (餓狼 MARK OF THE WOLVES), known as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves on Dreamcast, is a 1999 fighting game produced by SNK, originally for the Neo Geo system. It is the ninth and final game in the Fatal Fury series, set ten years after the death of Geese Howard in Real Bout Fatal Fury. It is known for pushing the graphical capabilities of the Neo Geo as well as its well-balanced roster of characters and highly technical gameplay.
Gameplay
The two-plane system in which characters would fight from two different planes was removed from the game. The game introduces the "Tactical Offense Position" (T.O.P.) which is a special area on the life gauge. When the gauge reaches this area, the character enters the T.O.P. mode, granting the player character the ability to use T.O.P. attack, gradual life recovery, and increased attack damage. Similar to previous titles, players are given a fighting rank after every round. If the players manages to win all rounds from the arcade mode with a at least a rank of "AAA", the player will face the boss Kain R. Heinlein, which unlocks an ending once defeating him. If the requirements are not met, then Grant will be the final boss and there will not be a special ending. Additionally, through arcade mode, before facing Grant, the player will face a mid-boss which can be any character from the cast depending on the character the player uses.
Plot
10 years after crime lord Geese Howard's death, the city of Southtown has become more peaceful leading it to be known as the Second Southtown (having formerly been corrupted by Geese). However, a man named Kain R. Heinlein wants to take revenge on Geese for the poverty-stricken childhood he suffered and aims to become the new lord of Southtown, more violent than Geese.
Wanting to find Geese's son, Rock Howard, and understand the meaning of his legacy, Kain creates a new fighting tournament called "King of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem". With the tournament and information about Rock's mother, Kain aims to make Rock join him in investigating Geese's legacy.

Ghouls'n Ghosts
Sep 26, 2010Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a platform game/run and gun developed by Capcom and released as an arcade game in 1988, and subsequently ported to a number of other platforms. It is the sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins, and forerunner to the Super NES game Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts.

Gameplay
The gameplay for Ghouls 'n Ghosts is similar to that of Ghosts 'n Goblins. The player controls the knight Arthur, who must advance through a series of eerie levels and defeat a number of undead and demonic creatures in his quest to restore the souls stolen by Lucifer (Loki in the English-language Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega Master System versions), including the soul of his lover, Princess Prin Prin. Along the way, Arthur can pick up a variety of weapons and armor to help him in his quest.
To defeat the game, Arthur must complete the game twice. The first time completion allows a special weapon to appear in the next round of play. To enter Lucifer's chamber the player must have this special weapon equipped and must have defeated the final Bee boss from level 5. After entering the final large door, the player goes directly to Lucifer's chamber.
While the core gameplay remains the same as its predecessor, the game now allows Arthur to fire directly upward and directly downward while in mid air.
By jumping in certain spots, players can cause a treasure chest to erupt from the ground. By firing his weapon at the chest, players may uncover new weapons, gold armor or an evil magician that changes Arthur into an elderly man or a helpless duck. The gold armor allows players to charge up the weapon to release a powerful magical attack. Each weapon has its own special attack.
